What do four and five-year-olds know about the 2010 winter Olympics? A lot if they attend the YM-YWHA Early Childhood department. Since the fall, teachers at the preschool have been incorporating elements of the Olympics into the children’s daily activities. The 33 preschoolers have been sporting pedometers and clocking their steps in a mock walk to Vancouver. At the end of each week, teachers tally up the numbers and track it visually for the kids on a large map of Canada. They have almost reached Vancouver.
“We’re very excited,” about the Olympics, said teacher Randy Mendel.
Other related activities have included: making bobsleds from boxes, visiting the Olympic torch relay at the Cote St. Luc Shopping Centre, learning about the different sports and meeting Olympic wrestler and torch bearer Martine Dugrenier
