Code of Conduct

The Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members, guests, and staff. To ensure the safety and security of all, individuals using the facilities or participating in our programs are required to conduct themselves in a considerate and responsible manner and to respect the rights and dignity of other members, guests, and staff. Parents and guardians are responsible for the behavior of their children while using the facilities and/or participating in our programs.

Conduct must be consistent with a family atmosphere. The following will not be tolerated:

  • Angry or vulgar language.
  • Hostile, threatening or unwanted physical contact. Theft or destruction of property.
  • Any behaviour that endangers the life, safety or health of others. Smoking, vaping, the use of e-cigarettes, cannabis or chewing tobacco. Aiding in the unauthorized entrance of any person to the facility.
  • Taking photos/videos of other members without permission.

Building Access:

  • Bikes and scooters can be locked at the outdoor bike rack. They are not permitted indoors.
  • Unattended bags are not permitted at any time.
  • Only those with provincially issued handicap permits are entitled to use the entryway on Mountain Sights.

FITNESS FACILITIES REGULATIONS

Access:

  • Members must use their fobs to enter.
  • Non-members must register at the Fitness Desk.
  • 0-11 year olds are not permitted entry to fitness facilities.
  • 12-14 year olds who have gone through teen orientation are permitted entry.
  • Boots, bags and coats are not allowed in the fitness areas. Keep your belongings locked in the locker room. We are not responsible for stolen property.
  • Attire for the fitness facilities and basketball gym: T-Shirts or athletic shirts, shorts or sport pants, and athletic shoes required. T-shirts or workout shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Attire for the pool: Bathing suits and bathing caps are required. Bathing suits with built-in floatation are not permitted, as they give a false sense of security while in the water. See-through swimsuits, thong bikinis and regular diapers are not permitted.
  • Reasonable measures should be taken to maintain proper personal hygiene.

Sharing the Space:

  • Cell phone conversations are not permitted in the fitness areas. When using headphones, the volume must not disrupt others.
  • Use one piece of equipment at a time. Users may not monopolize the equipment.
  • Avoid dropping weights.
  • Food is not permitted in the fitness areas. Only bottled beverages are permitted.
  • Making video calls or taking photos/videos in the locker room is not permitted.
  • Clean equipment after use. Return weights to rack after use.

We reserve the right to deal with violations of the code of conduct at our discretion at any given time to include, but not limited to, refusal of service, removal from the property, and suspension and/or revocation of membership privileges and facility access.
