Getting to know our Group Fitness Instructors – Heidi Barski
What do you teach at the Y?
I teach Bootcamp/HIIT and Spinning.
What is the best part of being a fitness trainer?
Being able to help motivate people and watch as they get fitter and stronger.
How do you stay motivated?
It doesn’t take much to keep me motivated because I love what I do and it translates from the personal to professional.
What have you learned from Covid-19 in terms of teaching and connecting with members?
I have learned that people can still keep active, whether it be outside or in the privacy of their own home. When there’s a will there’s a way if you want it badly enough. I have kept in contact with my clients and members who participate in my classes, there’s no reason not to just because we are unable to be together in person.
Do you have a favourite type of workout? If so what is it and why?
HIIT workouts are my favourite because of the results due to a lot of cardio combined with weight training.
What is your favourite new feature, space and/or equipment at the newly renovated Y? And why?
My favourite feature of the Y is our new group fitness studio. It is larger and well ventilated. My favourite pieces of equipment have always been the TRX and Kettlebell and I am thrilled to be able to start using them in my classes once permitted to do so.
