Ivri Anochi: An Immersive Jewish Journey for Kids

For many families, finding an engaging and meaningful way to introduce their children to Jewish traditions outside of a traditional synagogue or school-based program can be challenging.
But these days, more than ever, our community has been looking for ways to integrate what Judaism means into their lives.
Ivri Anochi, a beautiful, educational initiative created by The Y, helps Jewish kids and their families nurture a connection to the Montreal Jewish community and Israel.
The immersive, experiential Jewish learning program is designed for children in grades 1-6 who do not attend Jewish day school. It’s a welcoming space where kids can explore their Jewish identity in a fun, inclusive, and hands-on way—all while making friends and staying active.
A Camp-Style Experience That Brings Judaism to Life
“Our goal is to meet families where they’re at,” explains Keren Ludvig, Chief Program and Community Engagement Officer at the Y.
“Ivri Anochi is about celebrating being Jewish—whatever that looks like for each child and family. Whether a family is interfaith or observant in a non-traditional way, this program offers a space where children can explore and embrace their Jewish identity in a way that feels right for them.”
Unlike conventional classroom learning, Ivri Anochi takes a camp-style approach to Jewish education. Instead of just talking about traditions, kids get to live them—baking challah instead of simply learning about Shabbat, creating personalized challah covers, and even participating in a Tashlich beanbag toss simulation (instead of tossing breadcrumbs in a flowing body of water). Through these interactive experiences, children develop a deep connection to Jewish values, culture, and traditions in a way that feels natural and exciting.
A Perfect Balance of Learning, Socializing, and Fun
Ivri Anochi isn’t just about learning—it’s about building Jewish friendships and community. The program’s unique schedule balances Jewish experiences with physical activity and social connection. Here’s what a typical Wednesday afternoon looks like:
- 3:30 PM – Kids arrive at the Y and enjoy a snack.
- Jewish Activities & Swimming – Children are split into two groups. One group participates in hands-on Jewish experiences while the other heads to the beautiful indoor pool for some active fun. Midway through, they switch!
- 5:30 PM – Parents pick up happy, engaged kids who have spent the afternoon learning, playing, and bonding with peers and inspiring Jewish role models.
This combination of structured Jewish learning, active play, and social engagement makes Ivri Anochi stand out from traditional Jewish education programs. Kids aren’t just sitting in a classroom—they’re experiencing Judaism in a way that’s meaningful, memorable, and fun.
