Wolves Intercity (Fall/Winter)

The SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA Wolves Basketball intercity teams compete in the Montreal Basketball League (MBL). Games are played against teams who represent different community centers on the island on Montreal. This is a competitive league in which players have the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the city.

Players who make a team are expected to commit to between 2 and 3 practices a week, depending on whether or not they have games scheduled. The competitive season runs from October through March. In addition to the regular season each team will have the opportunity to participate in tournament and exhibition games.

Wolves players of all ages are expected to participate in various community building initiatives, fundraising initiatives and community service events. We are not only building better basketball players we are building community members.
By the time a player graduates from the Wolves, our coaches will have provided them with as many tools as possible for them to compete at the next level.

We expect to add more age categories to our lineup in time for the 2023-24 MBL season. Stay Tuned.

About SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA Basketball

The SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA has a long, storied history with the game of basketball. A basketball hotbed dating back to the 1950’s the Y gained notoriety for winning a National Championship in 1947 and in so doing earning the right to represent Canada at the Olympics the following year. The SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA has continued to consistently produce quality teams in the decades since, winning numerous championships in the Montreal Basketball League and at various tournaments. We are equally proud of our alumni who have graduated from our program and gone on to play at a higher level. The CEGEP and University basketball leagues are full of former Wolves.

In addition to the Wolves intercity basketball teams, the Y offers skill development programs – namely the Jr. NBA as well as house league. Each program focuses on developing basketball fundamentals in young athletes. The development programs take place in the fall, winter and spring seasons and are open to players 5 years and older. Not every program is available at every age; new programs are constantly under consideration.

WESBL

Created in 2008, the Wolves Elementary School Basketball League (WESBL), is hosted by the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA. The WESBL is an independent Jewish Elementary school league which serves eight Jewish day schools that compete in both a boys and a girls division. It is the expectation of all stakeholders that the WESBL will return as soon as Covid protocols will allow.
