ABOUT
The SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA has a long, storied history with the game of basketball. A basketball hotbed dating back to the 1950’s the Y gained notoriety for winning a National Championship in 1947 and in so doing earning the right to represent Canada at the Olympics the following year. The SYLVAN ADAMS YM-YWHA has continued to consistently produce quality teams in the decades since, winning numerous championships in the Montreal Basketball League and at various tournaments. We are equally proud of our alumni who have graduated from our program and gone on to play at a higher level. The CEGEP and University basketball leagues are full of former Wolves.
The cornerstone of Wolves Basketball camp is FUNdamentals. Using the Jr.NBA playbook, each camper will go through a full 10-session Jr.NBA course throughout the week.
Every camper will swim daily in our pool! Your kids will be very active in improving their athletic ability with our trained WOLVES coaches as they take their fist steps towards possibly joining WOLVES BASKETBALL in the future – complete with MEDIA DAY by our official Wolves photographer Ath1etes.of.today (Trenton Dias Maxwell).
Jr. NBA Youth Basketball (JNYB) is a national youth basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and a love for the game of basketball. This joint initiative between NBA Canada & Canada Basketball empowers community sport groups, facilities, and clubs in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball.
JNYB believes sport is a powerful development tool, providing youth an opportunity to build character and life skills. JNYB aims to take full advantage of this to develop the whole child, not just the athlete, using activities that teach goal setting, communication, teamwork, and more.
OUR MISSION
To promote and support competitive basketball teams, enhance and improve players’ skills, and foster a positive environment of sportsmanship and teamwork.
Kids play sports for fun, not to score points or win games. By maximizing player participation and engagement while promoting fun and friendly competition, we help young athletes embark on a long and successful basketball career by putting fun first.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
To teach the fundamentals of Basketball. Make it fun and keep it fair.
JNYB was developed along the guidelines of Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, a research based approach to optimal athlete development at all levels of sport. Focusing on physical literacy and the fundamental skills, JNYB acts as the entry point to Canada Basketball’s Athlete Development Pathway.
JNYB was designed following an extensive review of existing community basketball programs across Canada and around the world. Every community is unique—as a result, JNYB offers the structural foundation of a youth basketball program while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the needs and resources of any community.
