Athletes at The Y
Each year, the Y recognizes a full time student athlete for their outstanding athletic achievements in Y programming. The recipient receives a $500 scholarship towards their education after showing prowess in their sport, age group and level. His/Her name will be inscribed on the Jean Béliveau trophy, exhibited in the Jack Engels display case at the Y.
2019 – Linda Morais
A student at Univertsité de Montréal, 26-year-old Linda is quite the accomplished athlete. Her athletic achievements both on the National and International stages are extensive. She most recently won Gold at the 2019 World Championship for Wrestling in Kazakhstan. She ads this medal to her numerous wins including the Sassari Internationale Senior competition in Italy, the World University Championships in Brazil and the 2016 World University Championships in Turkey. On top of training at the Y’s Reinitz Wrestling Centre, Linda loves to swim and workout in the fitness centre.
“Since 2011, the Reinitz Wrestling Center and the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA has been my primary training facility. The Y is a warm and welcoming environment with caring clients and encouraging staff members. The facilities continue to meet the needs of my high-performance lifestyle with their state-of-the-art wrestling center, weight room and swimming pool.
I am forever grateful to George and Eleanor Reinitz and the Montreal Wrestling coaches for their continued support in my athletic career. I would not have reached the high level of performance that I have today without the Reinitz Wrestling Center and the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA.” – Linda
2018 – Jade Dufour
You can find Jade at the Y, bright and early, every morning at 7:30am ready to wrestle. Since 2014, Jade has been a proud and skilled athlete of the Reinitz Wrestling Center however, 2018 has been a particularly successful year for Jade. She won 5 medals at National and International competitions, including gold at the World University Championships in Brazil.
