Getting to know our Group Fitness Instructors – Marissa Haupt
What do you teach at the Y?
I teach SWEAT – Total Body.
What is the best part of being a fitness trainer?
1) No matter how I’m feeling prior to teaching, the second I see my clients I am in the best of moods!
2) Watching my participants/clients progress.
How do you stay motivated?
I try to log what I eat, what exercise I do, and how I feel. This way I can refer back to it. As for exercise, if I’m feeling discouraged, I take a class so that at least I don’t have to think about what I’m doing, I just do it.
What have you learned from Covid-19 in terms of teaching and connecting with members?
I always knew online workouts could be great (since I started doing them 2 years prior to Covid), but what I learned was how helpful it is to do group classes online when people are in crisis. It’s so helpful to see/speak to others that are in the same situation as you. I love that I can help bring my clients/friends together when they need it most!
Do you have a favourite type of workout? If so what is it and why?
HIIT workouts and lifting heavy. HIIT because I feel amazing after doing hard things that I didn’t think were possible, and lifting heavy is similar. As someone who is small, I feel like a boss lifting things that are bigger and heavier than me!
What is your favourite new feature, space and/or equipment at the newly renovated Y? And why?
I love all the space! Not just because of Covid, but it was hard to find space before and now there’s so much of it!
